Hi

Who here has micro-adjusted (oo-er) their lenses? What methods have you used that you find successful and repeatable?

I know there is now software out there that claims to do this, but it's a bit on the pricey side, and quite frankly, I'm sure this can be handled manually without more expense. Plus, as I understand from various reviews/reports that the results can be varied.

So what do you do?

(Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, but the search results aren't giving me any useful hits)

Cheers

Nikon J1 and WC-E80 wide converter .

I decided to take a chance on a used WC-E80 0.8X wide converter meant for Nikon compacts - at $1 it was worth a gamble I reckon :) .
The WC-E80 slides almost perfectly over the 10-30mm lens and the middle plastic section of the lens stops the converter from going any further back so no glass is touched on either lens .

This is it just resting on its back .....

The converter is a heavy chunk of glass and will need to be supported with your hand when shooting .

These are the fist images taken with it - I will take some outdoor shots when the situation presents itself .

There is some distortion that shows with vertical lines on the edge - probably wouldn't be apparent in normal landscape shooting .
By my calculations I now have an effective 21.6mm lens .
This was taken at night - we'll see what a smaller aperture does with edge sharpness in good light :)

I decided to go shopping today. I wasn't really happy shooting with the 600D and had a bit of spare cash... so I picked up a 7D. Battery is charging and cannot wait to have a play. Whilst I know the 5DmkIII is out, I don't really need full frame right now and it would have meant replacing 66% of my lenses. So the cost wasn't justified. I did pick up a brand new 24-105 f4L for $1800 though which I was happy(ish) with. My first ever L lens. If I decide that I do eventually want to go full frame I can use the lenses I hope to be accruing. After blowing almost $5K I'm quite happy. I'm poor for the next 6 months, but happy at the same time :)

The Video department at Aoraki Polytech are filming some interviews for Otago Settlers Museum, they asked if someone from my Digital photography class would like come along as they all have small sensor video cameras and would like some footage taken a larger sensored DSLR for the interview, to which I offered my service.

I don't really no much about the interviews other then they are being done at a marae, and if there is any lighting it will probably be organised for me by the film students. It was suggested a 50mm would be a good choice for this, although I just sold mine to buy a Sigma 50mm which probably won't arrive until a few hours after the interview tomorrow but I'm hoping to be able to borrow a canon 50mm f1.4, I'll be shooting with my canon 60D and I think they will have an external mike for me as-well.

If anyone has done something like this before or does a lot of video on DSLR's I would appreciate any advice you could give me.

Guys, I am after some advice. I have a set of Elinchrom D-Lites that I love bit they suffer from a limitation that they need to be plugged. While I would love to I don't have the budget to buy a set of Ranger portable lights. You can buy a battery pack from Apix which costs $1099 and it is limited to only about 300 pics per charge. For $499 you can buy an Inverter generator which will do the same job.

Has anyone used a generator in connection with studio lights. Would appreciate your thoughts?

Cheers

Hi Everyone

First post, so please be gentle.

I have recently been doing some freelance work for a multisport organisation. they have been posting some of my images on their Facebook page. A major outdoor clothing company has seen one of my images and would like to use in some of their promotional work.

The subject in the image has been approached for use, and I am told the company will be calling me this week. My question is how much should I charge for the image? What is the general approach to these things?

I don't want to over price myself, while I also don't want to undersell myself. I am new to the game, and trying to build a name for myself, so HELP, any guidance would be greatfully received.
I was messing around with LR4 and PS6 with this test image. Alot of PP was don by LR4 leaving litle for PS6 to do. I messed around with content aware (but not applied in the final image) and i must say, it is very clever.
