Only if you know where to look

I have a special map dont know who found them all but some are just plain insane to get to. Summers fine but winter there is no way

There must be a "official" size for a waterfall for it to be marked.
The map I have I would guess was complied by a tramping club over the years.

So it seems to indicate anything over a 6ft drop or a strech of rapid/small falls.

Years ago my wife nicknamed me the "waterfall hunter" as I was always walking up some stream looking for the hidden ones.

When ever MarkV and me go out there is always ropes involved

Dont forget in winter the Waitaks has waterfalls that dissapare in summer as its all run off

That makes sense Unfortunately I'm not such prepared for waterfall hunting. I follow "official" information found in Google. My wife and son usually want to see them as well and prefer to walk along formed footpaths instead of bush

Well that may explain why you see 1 and I see 5

There is a waterfall above the big 1 at karekare but will need ropes to get down it. Hell of a walk up to the top. Your legs burn cause of the climb and the angle ........ keen?

That'll be the Upper Nihotupu Dam walk. I was there today and went down to the dam at the end of the reservoir. They're doing construction work there so the track is only open on Sundays and access around the dam and tram tracks is restricted. Not sure for how long.
I was planning on spending more time around the bridge on the way back but ran out of time. It's on the "go back" list though.

Aha! I've been there once. But my son was too young to let him play at the falls while I'm taking shots or panoramas. Since that I've been dreamng to come there again
