    Default Sony A100 HELP!!! Please

I have finally got brave and taken the Sony off Auto settings, But here is where my problem lies.....
I cant seam to set the shutter speed right. ie, I took a photo in auto 125 @f5.6, pushed the button, click, there was my photo

I put the camera on to manual, set the speed to 125, f5.6, pushed the button, clllllllllllll (wait for it) clllllllllllllllllllllllllllick! all up I think it was about 3 seconds between first and second click of the shutter and there was camera shake.

    What am I doing wrong???
I have tried using lots of different speeds etc but even if I go into the speed priority i have the same problem, It just doesnt sound right. Please help as I really dont want to put the camera back into AUTO

Wow you guys are the best! thanks so much for the quick replies! It is giving me new things to think about,

But the A100 doesnt have live view, so its not that

I have even dragged out my old minolta SLR to check the settings on that because to be honest I think i understood that camera, we had a good thing going on, been together for a long time, traveled alot of miles. This whole digital thing is too confusing, maybe i should have stuck with the point and shoot

I have the A700 and the only way I get do what you describe is having the 2sec timer on or have a longish exposure.
Have you tried at a faster shutter speed?

Have you got the 'Drive Mode' set to Continuous adv or single shot?
Change it to Continuous and take multiple shots without lifting yoir finger and if you have a fast shutter speed it should take shots quickly. In single mode you have to keep lifting your finger off the shutter button to take the next shot.

Camera's include Sony A700 Minolta Dynax 700si, 4 old Kodak and a 1897 Lancaster Instantograph which still works. Plus a Leica miniature (Minox) digital camera.
