700mm on Full Frame

I had a great oppotunity today when 37south (Richard) and I went to Puketutu IS and I got to try out my coverted 500F4 lens. I have owned a Sigma 50-500 very early on in my photography and still to this day I miss it on a 1.6 crop camera (crap on FF).

I have also owned the 300F2.8 and 600F4 so I knew what this lens was like IQ wise. I could hand hold and shoot BIF (birds in flight) but not for long.

These shots are with 500 F4 and 1.4TC and 1Dsmk3 so we are looking at about 5.5kg handheld.

Next time I would use a monopod

Amazing sharpness for hand-held. Half an hour with it must be equal to a decent session or two at the gym though.
