Wowsers to the image size! ISO 640 interesting, fair bit of light per pixel noise in the background shadows but OMG detail where it counts. Not much different to the 645D!

Canon are looking at a monster to try and compete with there.

D700 didnt do video, had half the resolution of the 5d2 so people had a valid reason to choose it.

36mp, $3k, 51point af, f8 focusing. Damned near my 7D files in cropped mode.

Looks like it has had nr applied? shadows to top left are blotchy a bit, but then could be OOC jpg or raw processing etc?

But still, lots of DR and detaill and very clean even at 100%

Its processed with Capture NX which is not really the best way to handle NEF files anymore. What is interesting is the date of the files 2011:07:02. If thats geniune it does somewhat reinforce that the camera would have been released last year but nature had other ideas...

Interesting contrast/product mix between the 'flagship' 16MP D4 and all these megapixels here.

Been so long waiting for the 5DIII, as long as its FF, I'll be happy.

D4 is obviously not targeted at the studio/landscape crowd but more the PJ and sports shooter lot.

looking back at the film days. did FF dSLRs cost as much as film cameras? I recall that a F100 or EOS 3 was $1,000USD.
pretty hard to justify right - more so for the amateur. pro's could justify it from efficiency of that digital workflow and shoot as much as you want.
even a Nikon D90 could get 200 rolls of Velvia bought and processed.

Digital has more going for it than basic costs.

If they can keep it under $4000 then it will be ok - the TradeMe importers will keep them honest...

FWIW, how much was the 5D2 when it was introduced? US$2699 or something? I recall it retailed at NZ$4400 here in the first couple of months.. Granted that was over 3 years ago now.

So NZ$4000+ would be where it's at.

Interesting. Nikon do have a couple of very nices lens canon dont 14-24 F2.8 and 200-400 F4

Canon will have a 200-400f4 out as soon as they remember to grow the fluorite !

Canon has a better 24tse, 17-40L, 24-105L and 70-300L with no as good equivalent , all of which I was planning on.

they do have a 14-24, 24-70 and decent 70-200

D4 = 1Dx, almost identical. (old school D3 = 1D4, D3x = 1DsIII)

Who knows, own both you need 3 card types! IMO a wierd decision.

About the same though nikon seem to think the D800 is the one to use for video.
