Wowsers to the image size! ISO 640 interesting, fair bit of light per pixel noise in the background shadows but OMG detail where it counts. Not much different to the 645D!
Bargaintastic too!
Nikons worst kept secret revealed everywhere but Nikons own sites (so far).
As expected. Full frame, 36MP with a surprisingly 'reasonable' pricetag (depending on where you are)
US: $2999.95 UK: £2399.99 EU: €2829

Looks REALLLLLLY nice but out of my price range for now considering I would have to buy a new computer to deal with those 36MP files!

Canon are looking at a monster to try and compete with there.
D700 didnt do video, had half the resolution of the 5d2 so people had a valid reason to choose it.
36mp, $3k, 51point af, f8 focusing. Damned near my 7D files in cropped mode.

Its processed with Capture NX which is not really the best way to handle NEF files anymore. What is interesting is the date of the files 2011:07:02. If thats geniune it does somewhat reinforce that the camera would have been released last year but nature had other ideas...

Bunch of links to official stuff from Nikon. Including samples. Websites kind of swamped at the moment...

D4 is obviously not targeted at the studio/landscape crowd but more the PJ and sports shooter lot.

looking back at the film days. did FF dSLRs cost as much as film cameras? I recall that a F100 or EOS 3 was $1,000USD.
pretty hard to justify right - more so for the amateur. pro's could justify it from efficiency of that digital workflow and shoot as much as you want.
even a Nikon D90 could get 200 rolls of Velvia bought and processed.
But you wont know what you have shot is OK until ages later.
Digital has more going for it than basic costs.

Not a lot of local details about yet, Nikon NZ are 'working hard' on keeping the local price close to the US. Guesses?
FWIW, how much was the 5D2 when it was introduced? US$2699 or something? I recall it retailed at NZ$4400 here in the first couple of months.. Granted that was over 3 years ago now.
So NZ$4000+ would be where it's at.
This looks like a great camera for doing landscapes.....so Rob, starting to list your Canon stuff online yet?![]()

Interesting. Nikon do have a couple of very nices lens canon dont 14-24 F2.8 and 200-400 F4
Canon gone down in MP nikon gone up wonder which one has made right move?
Canon will have a 200-400f4 out as soon as they remember to grow the fluorite !
Canon has a better 24tse, 17-40L, 24-105L and 70-300L with no as good equivalent , all of which I was planning on.
they do have a 14-24, 24-70 and decent 70-200

so really we need 2 cameras
So D4 is there 1D series?
Oh Rob you upgrading to full frame?
Why does the D4 have XQD+CF while the D800 has CF+SD ?
Are the video features of both cameras different?
D4 = 1Dx, almost identical. (old school D3 = 1D4, D3x = 1DsIII)
I will be full frame in the next 6 months, yes.
