Whats a Good L lens for everyday use.

Ok I'm wanting to buy a decent Lens for my Canon 550D,I would prefer a L lens or maybe something similar.But I want something i can use for everyday use that has a bit of reach and a bit wide if you know what I mean and takes bloody good photo's.I have a Rokinon 14mm 2.8 so i will be keeping that as I like my Landscape photography and I'm very happy with it and what it does.But yeah i just want something I can just use with it so only having to cart 2 lenses round with me instead of 3 or 4.
I have a budget of around $1000.00 and yep was thinking along the lines of a 24-105mm L but woo they up around the $1400 mark or more for a new one.So any ideas please,thank you.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a 24-105 for less than $1000. I think the only L in your price range is the 17-40?

It may be a better idea to save a bit more.

Yup $1295.00 is the cheapest I can find for a 24-105 brand new.

I went for the 17-55 F2.8 when I had a similar request, not sure if its under $1000 tho, I got it for $1200 on special a couple of Xmases ago. Its not an L or a red strip lens only because it doesnt have the sealing but the optics are awesome

Yeah agree with BlueRose 17-55 is hard to beat as an everyday lens on the crop sensor.

17-40L was my first L lens. The 17-55 f2.8, didn't exist at the time, so it was the next best thing. Good for when/if you go FF, which was 7 years later for me

Then you need a new bag!

24-105L was my first L, was a great little all-rounder, not wide enough on a crop though.

Had a look at the review of the Canon 17-55mm lens, yes sounds like the ideal lens to get as it would be a good replacement for my 18-55mm kit lens as thats what i want to do i also had a lookie at the review of the Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 alot cheaper but they say the Auto focus is slower than the Canon and sharpness is about the same as the Canon.2nd Hand canon on TM going for about $1100-1200 and new from infotech retails for $1326.00.
