    People category

I like this image alot and it stands out from the rest of the people images. Great composition and really interesting subjects.

I also like this one. Reminds me alot of Martin Parrs satirical photography, which I love.

it stands out from a lot of shots in other catagories too...

I must be a grumpy-bum this evening as I couldn't really find any really compelling shots that I could say "that's great!" some were interesting, a lot were less than. I struggled with the web format of having to go back & forth to the "cropped" previews, or wave-the-mouse at the next link (that wasn't in the same place on the page)

I did find quite like this:

    dphotomagazine.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/brian-lai-creative%20[1600x1200]-670x446.jpg

(you may have to copy & paste - sorry the linky thing didn't seem to want to work for me)

The file size limit is 1.5mb and longest side can be 2000px so I don't think you need to worry too much...

Sure, 2000px won't print very big, but that's plenty big enough for anything web related.

Yeah Dan, you're just soft on penguins, not too many where you are.

Mostly with Adam on that, OK the framing is fine, neither great nor terrible, poor light, lots of penguins.

If that was the best pingu shot I came back with I would be dissapointed.

I didn't really think too much, it just stood out to me as a cool shot.

When I read the rules I spotted this "A maximum of one entry per category is allowed."
And this entrant Brian Lai has several in the creative category or am I reading the rules wrong?

dphoto dont tend to have the IT side sorted enough to stop you entering more than 1, they'll fix it later I guess

It's not a great photo but it is better than alot of the other entries.

To distinguish between a great photo or a photo of something great is not an issue that should be considered (or 90% of landscape photographs would be in the latter, find a good spot, sit down, set camera to f/11 click button - that's pretty much what landscape photography is in my opinion).
This photo in particular appears to have given consideration to composition, which makes it both a good photo and a photo of something good.

You can stick any old numpty in the Himalayas with a camera set to Auto and they will have a more interesting portfolio than the informed armchair photographer who takes pictures from his deck every day.

Actually the point was that the contestant submitted more than one rather than that the system allowed him too.

I think they go through and get rid of double entries manually, there are quite a few double entries or multiple entries form one person. The whole Dphoto website seems to be down atm.
