What sort of shooter are you?

Okay here is the question, RJD says recently that he feels he has been labelled as a landscape specialist, I on the other hand will shoot anything if it catches my eye, but I guess I am essentially a landscape and machinery guy.

What is your style, are you people, portraits, landscapes, social, machinery, children, family, oh and so on.

I don't think any one of us sets out to have a style, but there are areas we all feel comfortable with and think are our best work.

How many labels can we put on that which is the subject material we shoot with our cameras.

BTW RJD (hell hope I have the initials right and therefore the right person) You are indeed a Landscape person, but many of the shots you have taken I consider to be Fine Art due to the nuance and subtly of them.

I dont think I've been labelled as a landscaper (tho probably what I'm known for if anything) and I enjoy all types of photography.

But I'm by far happiest shooting landscapes because thats what I mostly really enjoy.

I certainly dont feet I've been put into a box and cant escape!

im a sort of like everything interesting but I do most love capturing people/portraits, events, family and lifestyle sort of photos.

I primarily shoot Landscape but not because I feel comfortable with it, rather because Landscape is why I became interested in photography. As a child and young man I spent a lot of time in the backcountry of New Zealand and knowing a lot of people don't I decided to try and capture the beauty to show others what they were missing and therefore put all my time and effort into taking better landscape photos. My next area of focus is to become a better people photographer...mainly because people interest me.

Landscape for me, I suck at anything that breathes. Like Azza I took up landscape photography because I felt compelled to share what I experienced out in the mountains. Still working on it.

Portraits is my current bread and butter, I'd say more of a documentary than studio feel (if that makes sense).

I really like music and photography - i've done quite a bit of it, but lately haven't had time.

Motorsports is something i'd like to get into since i'm also a car nut.

I'd love to do more shooting of mountain biking and surfing etc but whenever the chance comes around I always prefer to be doing rather than shooting.

Its all about passion, results are totally based on commitment and if you'd rather be doing something else it just wont happen.

Landscape, street, photojournalistic stlye event photography. In spite of my love for cars, I find car photography, and photographs of cars to be very boring ( no offence intended to those who obviously enjoy this - you may well find my stuff equally as boring, and are welcome to do so )

No interest in formal type posed shots.

I take a big mix of everything. I guess I don't have the skills or experience yet to feel compelled to specialise. I enjoy landscape when I get the chance, but I think half of the enjoyment is getting out into the fresh air and seeing things from (often) new perspectives.

I'd really like to be able to get more practice shooting people, but alas, finding someone happy to stand in front of the camera for hours on end while I 'practice' is not happening for me

Experimental , push the limits , work out what is possible technically and try to accomplish it .

Sounds like me. I quite enjoy taking "portraits" of sports people in action as well.

Mostly i'm random but i do love taking sly portrait shots of people and my good old 75-300mm has stood me in good stead for this. I have no interest in posed shots...or indeed studio photography.Still trying a few landscape shots but not my forté i think really.

I mostly enjoy event/sport photos, but enjoy a fair bit of landscape as well, I'm pretty young (well I think so anyway) and newish to photography (2 years) so I'm still experimenting with different types of photography.

I find I get more satisfaction from landscapes, as they still look good several months later, where's most event/sports pictures arn't very interesting to someone who wasn't there, or doesn't know the people in them.

That's a very interesting statement , and true for me as well .
Maybe it's because with sports someone my have won an event "back then" but now it's "old news" and other games have been played , while with landscapes
they're mostly 'timeless' .

I occasionally like to shoot cars... But i do like a lot of contrast/pattern in my non automotive subjects...which is probably why i'm always out looking for old wooden barns and steel bridges...

Also, as some may have noticed, i like to do a lot of PP...

I really don't like shooting people...i'd make a crap mass murderer...ha ha

For work I shoot obvious local scenic photos that I sell as postcards and prints in the shop, and I used to do everything from school balls to weddings, babies and all sort of commercial work. I stopped the non commercial stuff about 10 years ago, much more happy and have more free time for me, all that family stuff is after hours. I like having a definite need for the photos and pleasing the customer not the subject. I do people well, I can usually get what I want out of them.
I also enjoy photographing the wonder my garden and love playing with lenses and stuff. I like PP but it has to be subtle, if you can easily tell it's been done then it usually is too much.
