Someone sent me a link - I have very few pictures I would consider worthy of entering in a competition - I see faults in all of them

maybe - but you're certainly further along than the rest of us...

(and I couldn't find any rules about what camera was used to take the shots entered)

Maybe just with these pictures over the last few days
The blue one was close to what I would perhaps enter in a competition but there are blown highlights and the top left of the spray is cut off .

I'd have a go Desmond - after all, what can you lose? The pink one on the previous page is just brilliant - looks like some sort of weird exotic flower opening.
    Nikon D80, Nikon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G, Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6, Nikon 35mm f/1.8G, Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro, Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 older screw-type, Nikon 70-300VR f/4.5-5.6G. Various filters and grads, elderly Velbon tripod (finger biter).

Try something a little less forceful - like throwing a small pebble?

Doesn't make enough noise to trigger the flash .
