Photography charges when you don"t want to charge

I have been approached about doing a family shoot just because they saw some of my photos on my facebook photography page and they like them. They would like to know what my fees are ..my experience in that field is zilch and i have not such an interest in it either..and informed them of this and told them if they are wanting this, it would be experimental on my part. I don't have a big camera / lens situation going over but am kinda interested. Would do it for nought for a self learning thing ..what to do in regards to fees ?

I would suggest that they hire a pro. They are abviously expecting to pay for a photo shoot, so politely decline and move on.

Do you know if there after outside or studio photos? Just hiring a studio can cost you $300+ an hour.

I would do outside , there is no studio hire in Whitianga and don't think they are going for formal , this is a young family . I am open with them and would be doing this for myself as much as for them so i don't just want to move on without giving it a burst . TFB yep great suggestion , i'll mention a nice bottle of red

FRom friends my fee is a dinner at their place.
I went round to one recently, and was blown away: my photos all over the place, and a huge frame holding about 20 all collagey-like! Bit ott imo.

I've gone with the nice red and am booked in for this shoot after i finish at the salon on the 16th ...have googled the parents and one child outdoor shots so i have some ideas composition wise at least. Have suggested Lovers Rock in Whitianga as the venue if anyone is familiar with the area here. May have to fight the bridal parties for a pozzie though
